TERRACED HOUSE IN BEMOWO 2010

The house forms part of a complex of similar terraced houses from 1980s. Our project, apart from solving the technical problems of the existing house (wet cellar, vulnerable roof structure), aimed at simplifying and modernising the appearance of the unit, without loosing the urban coherence of the row. We modified the windows – all those facing the street are vertical, including the new windows providing light and views for the attic. Windows in the back facade are larger and located lower than in the original project – either converted to balcony doors or forming deep niches at the height of 40cm to provide seating places with views to the garden. The massive entrance porch was demolished and replaced with a light, glazed cube.

The interior interventions are most evident on the ground floor, where the living room was connected with the dining area and kitchen, forming a large ‘daytime’ space. Other changes involved smaller modifications like moving door openings, demolishing unnecesary partitions etc.
